Pearlita Holder was born in Corriverton, Berbice, and was raised in a loving home. She attended President’s College for five years and graduated as one of the top students in her year. However, financial constraints forced her to leave the University of Guyana, where she was studying biology, after her first year.
In 2015, Pearlita became a teacher at Plaisance Secondary School, and it was there that she discovered her passion for working with girls and women. She organized the teachers at the school and founded ‘The Lady Cues Foundation’ (TLC), which provided support, supplies, and life skills training to school-aged girls. TLC expanded to include three schools along the East Coast of Demerara and positively impacted the lives of over 100 girls.
After leaving teaching, Pearlita worked as an Assistant in the Education Department, volunteered at local NGOs, and continues to teach English and Science online with STEM Guyana. Her time with STEM Guyana is well spent, as the organization prioritizes providing students with access to education and technology in a fun and non-formal way.
In 2021, Pearlita founded the IMM Network, which aimed to bring creatives together and hosted educational seminars for young professional women in Guyana. These seminars featured influential speakers, including Oil & Gas trailblazer Abbigale Loncke and JCI Intl. Vice President Deondra Wishart-Hope.
Pearlita pursued many ventures in her pursuit of purpose; from creating and selling sleepwear, lingerie, art, and food to selling wedding planning materials and doing social media marketing. While not all of her ventures were successful, Pearlita learned valuable lessons from each of them, including the value of taking risks and not living in fear.
Through her work with TLC, STEM Guyana, and the IMM Network, Pearlita continues to make a positive impact on the lives of many young girls and women in Guyana. Her determination and dedication to empowering others serve as an inspiration to all.
