Jermain Semple, a 32-year-old police sergeant, has been hospitalized after allegedly being shot by Fawazz McRae, a 27-year-old building contractor, at the Crown and Anchor Grill and Bar in Linden on March 12th, 2023, at approximately 9:30 pm.
According to the investigation, Jermain Semple, his brother Dervon Semple, and his cousin Fawazz McRae, all members of the Tactical Services Unit, were at the bar when a fight broke out between Jermain and his brother. Fawazz intervened, and a scuffle ensued between Fawazz and Jermain, resulting in Fawazz drawing his licensed handgun, a .32 pistol, and firing two rounds at Jermain. One bullet struck Jermain in the head, causing severe injuries. He was immediately transported to the Linden Hospital Complex and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation for further medical attention. His condition is currently serious.
The suspect, Fawazz McRae, was apprehended, and the firearm was retrieved. Four suspected live ammunition rounds were found in the magazine, and one live round was found in the chamber. During the altercation, Fawazz sustained injuries to his left elbow and right ear and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He has since been released and is currently in police custody, cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Police officers canvassed the scene and discovered two .32 empty spent shells. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
