500 Police ranks graduated last Friday from the ‘Train the Trainers Programme on Gender Based Violence’ as part of the COPSQUAD initiative. The graduation ceremony was held at the National Cultural Centre
The training was done as part of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the United Nations (UN) Population Fund’s COPSQUAD2000, to train every officer at every police station across the country for them to receive specialized training on how to address cases of gender-based violence and domestic violence.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, in his brief remarks, made it clear to the ranks that while training is important, ranks must at all times maintain their professionalism and provide quality service to members of the communities which they are Policing.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud, who was present at the graduation ceremony, mentioned that her Ministry has made a commitment to ensure that every rank in the Guyana Police Force is trained on Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence.
Minister Persaud further told the ranks that “you are a part of the transformation that will allow our nation to progress in a peaceful way”. She also congratulated the ranks on their achievement.
Also present at this important occasion were UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Yesim Oruc, EU Deputy Ambassador Ms. Evelina Melbarzde, Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, Deputy Commissioner Administration Mr. Calvin Brutus, Deputy Commissioner Operation Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, Head of Special Branch Mr. Errol Watts, Regional Division Commanders and other Senior and Junior officers of the Force.
