The charitable Guyana Foundation is now the recipient of land on the East Coast Demerara (ECD). The land which is situated at 17 Triumph Village, E.C.D was donated by the Mangal family, through the siblings -Basdeo (Guyana), Shirley and Devika (New York),  and Taikchand (Canada)- as stated in a release by the Foundation.

The Foundation’s mission is “To release the power of people and organisations globally, to empower disadvantaged persons, to improve their skill sets, improve their mental wellbeing, to achieve stronger coping skills, trust, and respect for each other regardless of race, gender, religious or political persuasion.”

The organisation, which was formed twelve years ago, has been offering free vocational skills training courses in a variety of disciplines, undertaken village renewal projects such as building bakeries, upgrading vital facilities and offers counselling services to combat the excessive rate of suicide.

Over the years the foundation has partnered with several international organisations such as the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, the Canada Fund For Local Initiatives, Scotia Bank and others. According to the foundation, their work thus far has been conducted through their Sunrise Centres located in Essequibo and the West Coast of Demerara.

The foundation says the organisation is extremely honoured and pleased with the support received by the Mangal family which will assist their work “in a most vital way.”

According to the foundation, the only request made by the family when gifting the land is that the organisation conducts its work “in memory of their deceased brother, Alfred ‘Bobby’ Mangal.”

“The message we wish to share from the family is this, ‘We pray that his kind and generous nature will shine through in the various charitable services to be offered by the new Sunrise Centre, which will be erected in his honour.'”

The foundation says it is in the process of designing, fundraising and planning for the establishment of a new Sunrise Centre on the land, and is extremely grateful and proud to partner with the Mangal family to bring services to persons on the East Coast, an area where countless requests have been received over the years.

“We chose the name Sunrise Centre so that through our free services people are able to  become empowered with new skills, to  find balance in their mental wellbeing. This in turn inspires them to wake up day after day to see another Sunrise.”
