On Thursday evening, February 23rd, 2023, a JetBlue flight from New York’s JFK airport to Georgetown’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) landed with a special crew member on board: Guyanese pilot Haslyn Peters.

Growing up in Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown, Peters was known as “Pilot” since he was a little boy. His childhood dream was to become a pilot, and he pursued that goal with unwavering dedication.

After attending Dolphin Government School and The Bishops High School, Peters joined the Guyana Defense Force and served as a pilot before migrating to the United States in 2009.

Since then, Peters has been working as a commercial pilot, accumulating thousands of flying hours and experience. However, flying to Guyana as part of the crew on a major carrier was a special moment for Peters.

For Peters, being able to fly a commercial aircraft back home to Guyana was a dream come true. It was a moment of pride and accomplishment for him, as well as for the Guyanese aviation industry.

The CJIA recognized Peters’ contributions to the aviation industry and presented him with tokens of appreciation for his service to Guyana. Peters’ achievement serves as an inspiration to young people in Guyana who aspire to pursue a career in aviation.

Peters’ story also highlights the importance of pursuing one’s dreams and the value of hard work, determination, and perseverance. Through his dedication and passion, Peters was able to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a pilot and inspire others along the way.
