Den Amstel man accused of assault reportedly commits suicide in Leonora lock-up

A Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara man, who was accused of assaulting a woman, has reportedly committed suicide while being locked away in a cell at the Leonora Police Station.
The dead man has been identified as 46-year-old Brian Knight of Fellowship Street, Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said Commander for Regional Division #3, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine reported that around 13:30hrs on Monday, May 30, 2022, a police rank made a check at the Leonora Police Station lock-up and found Knight motionless in cell one.
It is believed that he may have committed suicide.
He was in custody for allegedly assaulting a 42-year-old woman. He was due to attend court tomorrow.
