Clothes vendor shot dead on Commerce Street

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for the shooting death of a 32-year old clothes vendor of Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

Dead is Paul Anthony Smith known as ‘Blacka’ who plied his trade on Commerce Street, Georgetown.
Smith, a clothes vendor, was reportedly shot at about 18:30h by the suspect, who is also a clothes vendor following a row.

Police said that Smith was observed holding a cutlass and heading to his car when he was shot by the suspect who plies his trade at Longden and Commerce Streets and hails from East La Penitence, Georgetown.

Smith fell to the front passenger seat of the car and was subsequently picked up by public spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead. He received one gunshot wound to his upper back.

His body is lodged at the GPHC morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.
