A 40-year-old clothes vendor, who resided at Hardina Street, Georgetown, was stabbed to death during a fight on Tuesday night.

Dead is 40-year-old Aubrey Baird of Lot 22 Hardina Street Georgetown. Baird was fatally stabbed at around 21:00hrs on Tuesday (February 8) in the vicinity of Hardina Street between Norton and D’Urban Streets.

The suspect has been identified as a 46-year-old man who is current under close arrest at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Eyewitnesses told the police the two men were seen fighting in a drain at around 21:00hrs. As the scuffle ensued, Baird was reportedly seen hitting the suspect about his body with a piece of wood.

The suspect who was armed with a knife dealt the victim two stabs to his left side upper chest. He then attempted to make good his escape on a pedal cycle but was apprehended by public-spirited citizens and subsequently handed over to police.

The injured man was picked up by an electrician and his son and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead at approximately 21:40 hrs whilst receiving treatment by a doctor on duty.

The suspect was also escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted a patient under police guard in a stable condition.

A PME is expected to be done shortly as investigations continue.
