94 COVID deaths in October thus far

The month of October is up to 94 COVID deaths as of October 22, 2021, with 19 persons in the COVID-19 ICU and 77 new cases. This put the total number of deaths to COVID-19 in Guyana to 893.

In less than two weeks, two children — aged 7 months and 4 years old — also succumbed as a result of the virus. The next youngest person to die this month was 18 years old.

For October thus far, 5 fully vaccinated persons have died, 12 partially vaccinated persons have died, 73 unvaccinated persons died and the vaccination status was unknown for four persons who died.

The highest number of deaths at eight occurred on October 9, 2021. Meanwhile, there are 3,290 persons in home isolation, 108 in institutional isolation and 6 in institutional quarantine.

For the year thus far, the number of COVID-19 related deaths per month are as follows: January – 13; February – 20; March – 36; April – 66; May – 98; June – 80; July – 68; August – 80; September – 172 and 94 deaths in October as of October 22.

The vaccination rate now stands at over 375,000 for the first jab and over 235,000 for the second leaving a gap between the two doses of over 140,000. Meanwhile, over 26,000 children have received their first shot of the Pfizer vaccine and over 16,000 have received
their second.
