Police in a release stated that enquiries disclosed that motor lorry GVV 1309 was stationary on the western drive lane of the estern  carriageway on Eccles Public Road East Bank Demerara facing south at the traffic light which was showing red in his direction and drove off proceeding south when the traffic light turned green.

In the process, the left side front collided with the pedestrian who was crossing the road from east to west.

As result of the collision the pedestrian fell onto the roadway and the front left wheel ran over her.
She was later pronounced dead by a doctor of the Emergency Medical Service unit at the scene of the accident.

The pedestrian was then picked up by staffers of the Carmen Funeral Home and taken to Carmen Funeral Home awaiting post mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and no trace of alcohol was found. He remains in custody and a notice of intended prosecution was served on the him as investigations continue.
