The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said that based on an eyewitness report, at around 14:30hrs on Thursday, the suspect was at a grocery shop located at Bennet Dam, when he went into the said shop and purchased a bottle of water.

The suspect then left the shop, picked up a piece of wood and ran towards Khan, who was walking on the said street and dealt the victim several lashes about his body.

The eyewitness further stated that the victim fell to the ground when the suspect pulled out a knife from his pants waist and dealt the victim a stab and subsequently fled the scene.

Police were alerted and visited where they photographed and processed the scene.

The body was escorted to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital by the police and an official pronouncement of death was given by a doctor on duty. The body was later escorted to Bailey’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.

A manhunt is presently in progress for the suspect, as investigations continue.
