Man severely burnt as fire destroys apartments at BK Quarries

A worker suffered severe burns when fire of unknown origin Thursday afternoon destroyed several apartments at BK Quarries Teperu, Region Seven location, police have said.

According to one of the workers at the site, a 34-years-old Venezuelan National, at the time mentioned he was in his apartment asleep when he was awakened by the fire which had engulfed his apartment.

He was able to run out of the building and raise an alarm.

Other workers responded with an onsite water tender and were able to extinguish the fire.

However, in the aftermath, ten apartments were left severely damaged.
The injured worker was taken to the Bartica Hospital where he was admitted with first and second degree burns about his body.

He was the sole person in the building at the time.

Investigations are in progress.
