…urges persons to get vaccinated against Covid-19

The Guyanese born nurse, Patricia Cummings who made headlines after  administering the Covid vaccine to US Vice President, Kamala Harris is back home and has been honoured by the Georgetown Mayor and City Council.

The M&CC in a release said that in commemoration of Nurse Patricia Cummings’ accomplishment, His Worship the Mayor, Pt. Ubraj Narine, officially vested a citation in her name.
“Having served for over 15 years, Nurse Cummings is recognised as a leader and spokesperson in public health. Moreover, she has featured in several notable nursing journals and has participated in various efforts to provide the public with trusted health information,” City Hall cited in its release.

Origin of Black History Month

Meanwhile, Nurse Cummings also met with US Ambassador to Guyana Sarah  Ann at the US embassy here. In a  Facebook post the embassy said Nurse Cummings was born in Bartica and migrated to the U.S at a young age where she has spent most of her life. Since her relocation, she has received her Bachelors of Nursing degree in 2008 from CUNY Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. She will graduate soon from Walden University with a graduate degree in Nurse Executive Leadership.

The embassy also made mention of Cummings being selected to inoculate Vice President Harris with her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. “The title “Nurse Patricia” was fondly used by the Vice President as she thanked Patricia after receiving her vaccine,” the embassy noted.
As a nurse for over 15 years, she is passionate about providing education and encouragement on the importance of vaccination particularly with the emergence of the new Delta variant. During the courtesy call, Ambassador Lynch thanked Nurse Cummings for her years of service as a front line worker and congratulated her on her accomplishments. Ambassador Lynch and Nurse Cummings echoed the importance of vaccination to ensure the safety of all Guyanese.
