Baby dies after drinking gasoline

A two-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon after he allegedly ingested gasoline in the Hymaraka Backdam, Middle Mazaruni.

Dead is Ken Jacobs, age 2 years of Isseneru Village Middle, Mazaruni River.

Police enquiries revealed that on on Saturday  the toddler and his mother were at her mining camp at Hymaraka Backdam when she left the chold unattended for a brief moment to tidy up her camp.

She subsequently observed the toddler vomiting what  appeared to be blood.
Upon examining, she discovered that he drank some gasoline that was stored at her camp.

The victim’s mother thereafter rushed him to Isseneru Health Post where he was seen and examined by the health worker.

Whilst there he became motionless and was pronounced dead. A report was made to police ranks on duty in the area. The body was examined and no marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of his body.

The toddler’s body was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital  via boat. Ivestigations are in progress.
