…slight decline recorded at The Bishops’ High and Queen’s College
Five school centers with entries to the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) have recorded increases in their overall pass rates. These schools are Berbice High, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary, Mackenzie High, New Amsterdam Secondary and President’s College.
According to statistics presented by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Marcel Hutson, President’s College moved from 85.19 percent in 2019 to 94.39 percent in 2020.
Meanwhile, Christianburg/Wismar in Linden, Region 10, experienced an increase in both candidate and subject entries in 2020 as compared to 2019. An improved overall pass rate was also recorded for this school from 92 percent in 2019 to 93.55 percent in 2020.
At Joseph’s High, the pass rate remained constant in 2020 at 92.99 percent.
Hutson said: “In the midst of COVID and all the drama and issues that were working against our students, we still see they were able to show that kind of improvement even though marginal.”
On the other hand, the Bishops’ High and Queen’s College recorded a decline in their pass rate for 2020. The Bishops’ High moved from 98.44 percent in 2019 to 94.3 percent in 2020 and Queen’s College moved from 94.44 percent in 2019 to 93.13 percent in 2020.
In 2020 entries were received from 10 school centres. Meanwhile, 97 private candidates offered 438 subject entries at the 2020 sitting. Their overall performance was satisfactory.
