Eleven persons are now homeless after fire gutted their Dageraad Avenue, Mackenzie Linden home today. Among those homeless are eight children.

Reports are that the fire started a little after midday on Sunday due to suspected electrical cause in one of the rooms of the now diminished one-story concrete house.

Village Voice News understands that at the time the fire started, the teenage children were at home when they began smelling smoke. They were later joined by their mother who began looking to see where the smoke was coming from. This is when she realised the smoke was emanating from the back room of the building.

However, by this time she realised that the room was locked and a fire had started. The firefighters were subsequently summonsed to the scene but they were unable to tame the fire before everything was engulfed and destroyed.

This is the second time the house was destroyed by a fire.
