Missing 20-year-old found dead in Arakaka River

The 20-year-old North West District man, who went missing on April 5, was discovered dead in the Arakaka River. On Thursday, his body was found floating in the Arakaka River, in the North West District (NWD).

Dead is Avinash Fernandes of Mabaruma Compound, NWD. Initial reports indicated that Fernandes went missing from a camp site located at ’13 Miles Trail Line’ Backdam Arakaka N.W.D.

He was last seen on April 5, 2021 about 21:00hrs.
On Thursday, Police Commander for Regional Division #1, Superintendent Khalid Mandall confirmed that the Fernandes’ body was found today floating in the Arakaka River.

The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said the man’s body was in a state of decomposition when it was found on Thursday between 07:00 hrs and 11:45 hrs by a party of policemen along Keith Alphonso, the man that Fernandes worked for.

Commander Mandall said the body was escorted to the Port Kaituma Public Hospital. No visible marks of violence was detected on the body. However, thorough check will be done at the hospital’s mortuary.
