Rawle Farrell, a 32-year-old Dazzle Housing Scheme man, who was wanted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) for possession of cannabis, has turned himself in.
CANU, in a statement on Tuesday, said Farrell turned himself in on Easter Monday after one week of hiding.
CANU Officers, on March 29, 2021 had discovered 1.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis with Farrell’s Dazzle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara home, however, he had made good his escape. It is believed that Farrell was trafficking the narcotics.
CANU said though Farrell was ordered to stop, he continued running. “Officers gave chase behind the suspect but were unable to catch him whilst others secured the scene. “Officers remained at the scene where a search on Farrell’s home revealed several zip lock plastic bags and bulky parcels with leaves, seed and stems all suspected to be cannabis at the property,” CANU noted.
It said while the search was being conducted at Farrell’s residence, his mother, Lynn Hollingsworth arrived at the scene and was questioned.
Hollingsworth confirmed that Farrell was living at the premises, however, she said she had no idea that he was “doing drugs”
CANU subsequently issued a wanted bulletin for Farrell. All attempts to detain the suspect proved futile.
However, on Easter Monday, the suspect, in the presence of his mother, relatives and attorney, turned himself in to CANU’s Head Quarters. He was arrested and questioned.
Farrell was expected to appear at the Cove and John Magistrate’s court on Wednesday to face the charge for possession of narcotics for purpose of trafficking.
