A serious accident on the Albion Public Road, Corentyne Berbice, on Saturday, has landed a motorcycle driver and a pillion rider in the hospital.
The accident took place around 22:30 hours and involved motorcar #PSS7097 owned and driven by Guyana Defence Force (GDF) corporal John Grant; motorcycle #CH3952 owned and driven by 32-year-old Ricardo McLeen of #19 Village East Coast Berbice; and his 25-year-old pillion rider, Parmanand Kissoon of Lot 299 Albion Village Corentyne Berbice.
Inquiries disclosed that motorcycle #CG3952 was proceeding east along the northern side of Albion Public Road at a fast rate when, allegedly, motorcar #PSS7097 reversed from Fresh Direct Supermarket located along the northern side of the said road into his path.
Upon seeing same, he blew his horn and applied breaks, however, despite his effort, his front wheel came into contact with the right side rear of the said car.
As a result of the impact, the driver and pillion rider were thrown onto the road surface where they received injuries about their bodies. They were picked up in a conscious condition and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by a doctor who transferred them to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
At New Amsterdam Hospital they were further seen and examined by a doctor who admitted them in the Male Surgical Ward suffering from a fractured left leg respectively.
Their conditions are regarded as serious. A breath alcohol test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar and same give a reading of .027 and .029 BAC. The driver is presently under close arrest at Albion Police Station. Further enquiries in progress.
