Covid-19 vaccines from China arrive

The COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government to  Guyana  via Alibaba cold chain transportation, arrived in Georgetown on Tuesday evening.
The Embassy of China in a release said that Mr. Chen Xilai, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Guyana and  Frank Anthony, Minister of Health of Guyana were on hand at the  Cheddi Jagan International Airport to witness the arrival of the vaccines and signed the transfer certificate on behalf of the two governments.

At the handover ceremony, Minister Anthony,  expressed his gratitude to China for the generous donation. He said that this is the first batch of vaccines directly coming to Guyana and that it came in a timely manner and will be used immediately for front-line medical workers to help fight against the pandemic. According to the embassy this batch of vaccines was produced by China National Pharmaceutical Group Corp, and is one of the best vaccines in the world and is extremely effective, the embassy asserted. Minister Anthony also said that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana, China has been providing support and assistance to Guyana. “This vaccine donation is another example of the cooperation between Guyana and China in the fight against the pandemic,” Anthony said.

Meanwhile, in remarks  Mr. Chen Xilai, Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy, said that China and Guyana have watched out for each other and cooperated closely during the pandemic. The donation of vaccines by China to Guyana has written a new chapter for China-Guyana cooperation, he added.  “This donation is another example of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s solemn commitment to make China’s vaccines global public good and contribute to the realization of the vaccine’s accessibility and affordability in developing countries.” The Chinese official said he is confident that Guyana can win the war against the pandemic, and that the friendship between China and Guyana will be stronger and deeper.
