West Dem teen hospitalised after struck by car

On Saturday, a teenager was struck by a motor car on Recht-Door-Zee, Access Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) after he reportedly turned into the path of the moving vehicle.

Admitted to the Children Ward of the West Demerara Regional Hospital with injuries to his left knee and face is a 14-year-old pedal cyclist of 2nd Avenue West Minister, WBD.

According to reports, on Saturday about 08:00 hours on Recht-Door-Zee, Access Road, the motor car and the cyclist were proceeding East on the northern side of the road with the cyclist being at the front of the car.

The cyclist suddenly turned south to cross the said road and ended up into the path of the motor car which collided with bicycle. As a result, the cyclist lost control of the bicycle and fell onto the road surface and received injuries about his body.

He was picked up by the said driver in a conscious state, placed into the said motor car and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital to seek medical attention.

The vehicle was lodged to be examined by the certifying officer and the driver is in custody pending an investigation.
