Soldier charged with manslaughter; granted $300,000 bail

A 29-year-old soldier of Section ‘C’ Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Monday granted $300,000 bail by Magistrate Esther Sam, when he appeared before the Charity Magistrates’ Court after being charged with manslaughter.

The soldier was not required to plea to the indictable charge.

Junior Fairas, was on January 30, 2020 charged by Police for manslaughter committed on Rayan Kahyum on April 20, 2020 at Martindale, Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two.

Fairas, who was arrested on January 29, 2021, was granted bail on the condition that he reports every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to the Grove Police Station.

The matter has been adjourned to February 22, 2021.
