A Police Corporal on Friday shot a 28-year-old Plum Park Dam, Sophia resident in his upper left thigh after he attacked the Corporal while resisting arrest.

According to reports, at about 11:00h, the Corporal along with three other ranks were on mobile patrol duty in sub-division three and while in the Plum Park, Sophia area they observed four males at a roadside shop acting suspicious.

The ranks immediately stopped to question the individuals when the 28 year old male threw a zip lock bag on the ground which contained a small amount of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The man subsequently ran away and made good his escape.

“The ranks in searching for the man passed by the said shop when they noticed the man and approached him, told him of the offence and while in the process of arresting, the man picked up a glass bottle and tried to hit the Police Corporal, who then moved away to avoid getting hit.

The man then began to use a series of obscene language while he continued to advance towards the Corporal threatening him with the bottle. The man was warned to desist, but continued and as a result the Corporal upon realising he was in danger discharged a round which hit the 28 year old on his left upper thigh,” Police said in a statement.

The injured man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by the Police, where he is awaiting an x-ray.
