“The ranks upon identifying the motorcar, which was proceeding on Church Road, signalled the driver to stop, who attempted to evade and as a result crashed into the police vehicle,” Police said noting that the suspect opened the driver’s side of the car and discharged a round in the direction of the ranks, who returned fire.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and discharged another round whilst trying to escape. The ranks fired several shots in the direction of the suspect who appeared to be hit in the process.

“The 24 year old suspect ran into an unoccupied yard where he escaped into the dense vegetation at the back of the yard. The premises was searched and a red haversack with suspected blood stains was discovered in the yard,” a statement from the Police Force said.

The ranks combed the area but were unsuccessful. The car has been lodged for analysis at the Cove and John Police Station.
