A 59-year-old woman of Block ‘Y’ Section C, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Tuesday killed after a minibus owned by the Guyana Police Force and attached to former President David Granger hit her on the Nandy Park Public Road, EBD.
The dead woman has been identified as Dulmattie Boodlall.
According to Police, the incident occurred at about 07:26h in the vicinity of Shaheed Supermarket. Reports are that at the time of the accident, the three lane traffic was activated on the EBD road. The minibus was proceeding north along the western side of the eastern carriageway.
“The driver alleged that as he was approaching the pedestrian crossing when he suddenly saw the pedestrian started to cross from West to East on the pedestrian crossing, he swerved East to avoid a collision but because of the short distance the Minibus collided with the pedestrian,” Police said in a statement.
Boodlall was picked up by the driver of the minibus in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination (PME).
Investigations are ongoing.
