Selfish leadership

In Guyana we have leadership that is selfish, driven by a self-serving agenda more than the agenda of the people. With such type of leadership the people are viewed as just being incidental to the satisfaction of their needs.

None is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice of denying themselves even a little bit to accommodate a national agenda that will bring about a common approach to development. None is willing to deny themselves to foster a nation of peace and harmony. It is often about self and the people incidental to.

CARICOM at 53: The Vision Must Be Matched by Action

Good is not in store for Guyana if we continue this approach of suppressing others. No government, no nation, no organisation can do well if we continue to oppress some and not recognise their right to equal space, to equal access.

No government, no nation, no organisation can do well if we continue to deny others justice and the enjoyment of equal rights and protection of the rule of law.

It is the law that will guide us and defend us. It is the law that will secure the security of all not individual benevolence and nepotism. It is the law that must take precedence over all. The United States of America  is a classic example as we became engrossed in their post-election happenings.

Were it not for the law that nation would have crumbled for it took a battering from forces, internal and external, in pursuit of their self-serving agenda. That experience is not unlike Guyana and if we do not stand as strong, we as a people and nation could crumble.
A strong opposition is as important to the people’s protection as a strong government important to national security.

It is not by accident that politicians create tension in society between and amongst class and race. It is not by accident. It is their own planned agenda of divide and conquer, exploiting the selfish among us, the greedy among us, and the vulnerable are left on their own.
This is not how a government of the people or opposition seeking to remove a government will function. Ultimately, if and when they do get into government one can expect draconian leadership, violation and abuse to fulfill their agenda, for they have to rule with an iron fist. The United States recently averted this.

Some leaders will kill or suppress the people’s spirit in their own self-serving agenda. They will even compromise the police force and the judiciary to govern with an iron fist and create a false sense of justice. They use their position as head of an organisation or government where they are supposed to be serving the people’s good to serve their own.
We have to be wary of selfish leadership and be unafraid to challenge it if we want better for ourselves, organisation, and country.
