Eight arrested for cockfight activity in East Berbice

Police have arrested eight men for hosting and attending a social activity in the East Berbice- Corentyne Region (Region Six) in breach of the COVID-19 emergency measures as gazetted.

On Sunday between 13:00h and 14:00h, seven ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) visited the home of Dextroy Melville where a cockfight activity was being held.

Melville, 31, of Bora Street Rose Hall Town was arrested for hosting a social activity while Lloyd Murray, 36, of David Street, Rose Hall Town; Wilfred Mann, 32, of Rose Hall Town; Brandon Patiraj, 19, of Boundyard Port Maurant, Corentyne; Jamal Brush, 27, Mati Street Rose Hall Town; David Singh, 51, of Whim, Corentyne; Saaheed Seetaram ,20, of lot Second Street Rose Hall Town and Jousha Deheart, 22, of Lot Port Mourant, were all arrested for attending a social activity.

The men were all placed on bail and are expected to make an appearance before the Albion Magistrates’ Court on November 24, 2020.
