Police arrest five in suspected human trafficking ring

…twenty-six Haitian nationals in protective care

Five persons are in police custody after two separate search and cordon operations in Georgetown and Region 10 on November 7 and 8, 2020 discovered 26 Haitian nationals at a city hotel and in a minibus on the Linden- Mabura road.

In a statement, issued Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs said among the 26 Haitians were ten adult males, nine adult females and seven children (two boys and five girls).

“The Haitians are being investigated as part of a suspected Human Smuggling racket and Trafficking in Person ring,” the Ministry said.

An investigation has been launched by the Guyana Police Force and the Haitian nationals have been placed in protective care pending the outcome of the investigations.
