The Infectious Disease Hospital

A sanitation worker employed by a private contractor at the Ministry of Health’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention at Liliendaal, died while using a freight lift.

According to a statement issued by the Georgetown Hospital, at about 13:04h on Sunday, the deceased, a 29-year-old Kevin Smith used a lift which was only intended for the transport of food and laundry at the facility when it collapsed. The man died from his injuries.

GPHC said that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has been notified of the incident and an investigation will be launched.

Further, the Ministry of Health and the GPHC “immediately begun independent investigations which will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and inform further actions to ensure that all staff and contractors at the facility comply with our safety precautions and measures.”
