Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon

Leader of the Opposition Joseph Harmon on Saturday sent congratulatory messages to  President-elect of the United States of America Joe Biden, on behalf Guyana. Harmon said it was a honour to congratulate Biden and   Senator Kamala Harris – Vice President Elect. “Her election is indeed historic as the first woman and first person of colour to be elected to the Vice Presidency”, the missive noted.

“As you are aware, the United States is home to the largest Guyanese Diaspora who make up hundreds of thousands of our brethren and sistren. Consequently, it is no surprise that the people of Guyana, both here and in the United States, rejoice at the welcome news of your election to the White House,” Harmon noted.

The nation, he said ,looks forward to engaging with the President and Vice President-elect Harris and their Cabinet in strengthening bilateral relations and building a stronger and more unified CARICOM and Caribbean basin.

US President-elect Joseph Biden 

He said also that the nation looks forward to briefing them on the political situation in Guyana.

“We commit to working with you to rebuild trust between our peoples, strengthening goodwill and re-establishing constitutional democracy and social cohesion in Guyana after a recent period of political and social turmoil and distress.”

Harmon wished Biden and Harris a  successful term in the White House as they embark on serving the people of the United States, providing hemispheric and global leadership and the unenviable task of restoring the United States’ status and reputation globally.
