A Captain of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was on Thursday admitted to the local bar following her successful completion of the Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the High Wooding Law School in Trinidad.
Captain Texine Daw was admitted to the bar by Justice Brassington Reynolds. Her petition was presented by Attorney Melissa Yearwood-Stewart in association with Solicitor General, Nigel Hawke.
Daw enlisted in the GDF as a soldier in 2008. Her desire to become an Officer of the Force materialized after she completed the Standard Officers’ Course. The mother of one, who attended St. Joseph’s High and St. Stanislaus College, read for a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) at the University of Guyana in 2015 and was the recipient of the Pro-Chancellor’s Medal for Best Graduating Law Student in 2018. She acquired her LEC on September 4, 2020.
Coming from a family of teachers, Daw saw that was initially her career path but her interest in law at the Sixth Form level drove her to carve her own path.
“It was while I was in 6th form at Saint Stanislaus College, I realized that I was interested in Law so I set my goal to becoming an Attorney at Law and set out to achieve same. I am equally happy with being a military officer. The values and standards of the GDF has shaped me into the individual I am today. I am grateful for the Guyana Defence Force for the opportunities afforded to me and the discipline and consistency which helped me to persevere throughout my studies,” Daw who hails from Helena No. 2, Mahaica said.
Chief of Staff of the GDF Brigadier Godfrey Bess, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks congratulate Captain Texine Daw, a statement from the Force said Saturday.
