One dead, another injured at Balamani Backdam

An unidentified man was reportedly killed on November 3, 2020 by a Brazilian national at about 03:00h at Balamani Backdam, Cuyuni River while a St. Ignatius, Region Nine miner, Vivian Lacruz was stabbed about his body.

According to reports, the deceased, Lacruz and the suspect were imbibing at a shop at Balamani Landing when an argument occurred. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed both the deceased and Lacruz about their bodies after which he made good his escape.

The duo was taken to the Bartica Hospital by public spirited citizens. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor while Lacruz was treated for his injuries and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he remains a patient.
He was stabbed to his neck and hand.

The suspect has not yet been arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
