Cops assaulted by drunken trio

..one suspect claims he is a member of People’s Militia

Two policemen were on Thursday assaulted by three persons including a woman while performing duties on Hadfield Street, Georgetown.

Police in a release said that they are investigating the incident which occurred about 17:00hrs. According to the police,  Constable Giles was performing duties on Cornhill and Hadfield Streets observed when je motorcar #PSS 5836, heavily-tinted came to a sudden stop on the road and in the process interrupted the free flow of traffic.

As a result, the rank approached the driver and told him of the offence committed and asked him to produce his documents which he refused. Constable Cummings who was in the vicinity went to Constable Giles’ assistance and also asked the driver to produce his documents to which he again refused.

Following the second refusal, Constable Cummings cautioned the driver and arrested him and in the process of effecting the arrest the driver assaulted him. At this time, the two other occupants who were in the vehicle at the time joined in and proceeded also both to assault both ranks. However, assistance were summoned via the network and they were all arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station where the driver gave his name as Keron Joseph of 181 Wisroc Housing Scheme and stated that he was a Staff Sergeant (Guyana People’s Mi

litia) but still did not produce any documents.  A breathalyzer test was carried out on him and 140 % and 100% BAC, the other occupants were also tested.  There results were: Albert Grant 165% and 165% BAC and Paulette Grant 80% and 80% BAC, all above the prescribed limit of 35%.
