Digicel’s Sponsorship Manager Louanna Abrams hands over a $1M cheque to Ms. Monette Harry of the Cancer Institute of Guyana

Digicel Guyana has donated $1million to the Cancer Institute of Guyana to aid in its fight against cancer.
The telephone company in a statement on Sunday said that the donation was done through its music-streaming app, D’music.
“The Digital operator matched every stream of their ‘Stream for a cause” playlist for the month of October with $1 US. These proceeds were then doubled and a timely donation was made to the Cancer Institute of Guyana.”

Digicel said it has continuously been contributing to the fight against cancer and noted its history of participation through their sponsorship of the Avon Breast Cancer walk, followed by their very own ‘Ride For A Cause’ cycle race.

The ‘Ride For a Cause’ ran for seven years and all registration proceeds from those races went towards the fight against cancer. More recently, Digicel has been taking initiatives such as the ‘stream for a cause’ to assist the Cancer Institute of Guyana by way of cash donations and other forms of support.
“We are very pleased to be part of this cause and giving back in a tangible way is something that Digicel is committed to. We would like to thank the public for streaming the Fight Cancer playlist in D’Music, we were pleased with the response therefore decided to double the amount which brought the donation to $1 million dollars. We are indeed better together in this fight,” said Louanna Abrams, Sponsorship Manager.

Monette Harry who received the cheque on behalf of the Cancer Institute thanked Digicel for its donation.
“Working with Digicel over the years has been tremendous… their support is always stellar,” said Ms. Harry who disclosed that the donation will help the Cancer Institute provide free mammograms to women across the country.
