Two Corentyne businessmen were on Friday morning robbed at the Skeldon market, East Berbice- Corentyne (Region Six) by a gun wielding bandit.
The men, 42-year-old Vibert Dan and 40-year-old Danishwar Panalall had been conducting business at the Market for a number of years. This is the second time this year that Panalall has been robbed.
Panalall, a cambio dealer of Springlands, Upper Corentyne had approximately $500,000 in his possession when a masked man walked up to him, pulled out a gun from his bag and demanded all his money.
Shortly thereafter, the bandit turned to Dan who was near Panalall and demanded his money. Dan only had $20,000 in cash along with his wallet and cellular phone which the armed man snatched and made good his escape on a bicycle.
“We were sitting right on the bench and I see this person coming with a blue hat and mask and a bag around his shoulder but I wasn’t really focus because I thought he was coming out of the market but when the man approach we, he pull out the gun and crank it”, Panalall told Village Voice Guyana.
The man then searched Panalall pockets and took away the money he had to conduct business for the day.
Dan, who owns a boutique in the market, recounts what transpired. “He come up to me and he search me up then he take away my cellphone and run away but I tried going behind him but I lost track of him and couldn’t find him,” he told Village Voice Guyana.
In January, Panalall was robbed $3million in US and Suriname currencies.
“It’s very hard on me since then because I have a family to feed and when you lose so much money people does don’t want lend you anything to start back because they does think if you get rob again they not getting back their money,” the frustrated man told Village Voice Guyana.
A report was made to the Springlands Police Station.
