Hog Island businessman beaten, robbed at Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling

A Hog Island businessman was on Wednesday night beaten and robbed at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Bank Demerara.
The businessman identified as 55-year-old Thakoor Singh of Eastern Hog Island, Essequibo River was relieved of one Blu cellphone with sim value $8000 and an undisclosed amount of cash (Guyana Currency) by three unidentifiable males at about 21:30h.

Singh was at his cousin’s snackette when the incident occurred.

According to Police, Singh along with his cousin were in the process of closing the snackette when he [Singh] decided to feed the dogs food.
Upon completion, he collected his bag from the shop when the suspects, one of whom was armed with a chopper, walked up to the him from a southern direction and dealt him several lashes about his body.

While he was being beaten, one of the suspects pushed his hand into Singh’s pocket and relieved him of his phone and money before making good their escape via foot.

Singh reported the matter to the Police and was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
Police visited the scene of the crime but nothing of evidential value was found.
Investigations are ongoing.
