Thieves clean out Anna Catherina shop

Thieves early Tuesday morning raided a Anna Catherina West Coast Demerara store carting off a range of items including some $260, 000 worth of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The attack was committed on Nafiza Samtani, age 57 years, a businesswoman who operates her store at Anna Catherina Public Road,  WCD. Police in a release said that the incident occurred between 21:30 hrs on 20/10/2020 and 04:00 hrs on 21/10/2020 by person  or persons unknown.

The items stolen are: a quantity of alcohol and non alcoholic beverage to the value of $ 260, 000; perfume to the value of $100,000; fifty cartoons  of cigarette lighters valued $200,000;  two electrical fans valued $13,000; $30,000 in snacks; five hammocks valued $20,000, and five ladies purses valued $10,000  among other items.

Enquiries disclosed that the affected grocery store is a wooden and  concrete structure attached to the western side of the  building that houses the Caribbean Temptation sports bar.  Between the dates and time mentioned,  the victim secured her shop by all the means provided,  leaving everything intact and went home.  She subsequently received a phone call from the landlord who related the breakage to her. Several persons were questioned but no useful information received so far, police said as they continue their investigations.
