GPL issued the statement in response to a Letter to the Editor published on Village Voice Guyana under the title “All is not well at GPL.”
To allay the concerns of both its employees and customers, the power company explained that since the first COVID-19 case was detected in Guyana in March, 2020, it has put a number of systems in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Following the announcement of COVID-19 Pandemic in March 2020, GPL Inc. has provided all necessary sanitizing products and masks for use by staff during the pandemic. These items are frequently replenished as required to ensure that staff have continued access to them during their day to day operations. Additionally, GPL Inc. has implemented increased online services to reduce office visits. These services included, but was not limited to, our 24/7 Online Live Chat, online applications and queries and 24/7 emergency numbers where customers can access our Call Centre team,” the power company detailed.
It said, however, that customers who were allowed to conduct in-house services were required to observe COVID-19 protocols such as wearing face masks, practising social distancing, using hand sanitizer and undergoing temperature screening.

“Resultant, GPL Inc. understands that there will be frustrations that arise as we continue to adjust to the unprecedented changes brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, our Company remains committed to ensuring that all avenues are explored as we continually seek new measures that can increase the safety of our staff and customers as we continue to fight the effects of COVID19 Pandemic,” GPL said.
