– PPP/C sticks with old team  

Eighteen Councilors who will make up the Regional Democratic Council of Region 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) were sworn into service on Monday.

Subsequent to the swearing in Vickchand  Ramphal who had served as Chairman from 2015 to 2020 was re-elected as Chairman of the RDC while Rion Peters who served in a similar capacity for the same period retained his position. The swearing of the Councilors, ten of them for the People’s Progressive Party Civic and  eight for the APNU/AFC Coalition took place in the Boardroom of the RDC at Fort Wellington and was presided over by Regional Executive Officer Genevieve Blackman in the presence of Junior Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Anand Persaud and  Members of Parliament Vincent Jordan and Faizal Jaffarally.

APNU Calls for Accountability Amidst Governance Crisis

In a brief charge to the Councilors Minister Persaud told them that they are responsible for the management and administration of the Region and should do so without fear or favour. He noted that the Region had been allocated $360M in the recently passed emergency budget and charged the council to ensure all of their projects are completed. He stressed: “There must be no roll overs.”

He also urged that the projects be closely monitored to ensure value for money. In brief remarks Ramphal said: “As Regional Chairman I would like to work with all Councilors to ensure that the people of this Region receive the goods and services that the RDC has to offer and that will enhance their lives of everyone in the Region. Those serving on behalf of the PPP/C are: Vickchand Ramphal Chairman; Rion Peters (Vice Chairman) Bindrabhan Bisnauth, Ayube Tajimool, Derrick John, Mohamed Rafeeoodeen, Adrian Singh, Lloyda Angus, Rohini Mooklall and Fiona Reynolds. Those on behalf of the APNU AFC are: Delon Crawford, Ismail Muhammad, Emerson Benjamin, Gershom Clarke, Shamie McAlmont, Carol Nurse, Gleavia Bourne and Pierre Williams.
