As of Monday, September 21, 2020, Guyana recorded 133 new COVID-19 cases and its 66th death. This brings the total confirmed cases to 2,402 while 16 persons remain the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The Ministry of Health (MOH) regrettably informed the public that as of 15:00hrs on Monday, a 67 -year-old man from Barima/Waini (Region 1) died while receiving care at a medical facility. This death will be reflected on Tuesday’s dashboard.
The man’s sample was collected from the patient at the time of admission and was tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently. The MOH expressed sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time.
Of the number of persons who contracted COVID-19 thus far, 1,251 are males; 1,151 are females and 1,359 in total have recovered thus far. Unfortunately, 102 persons are in institutional isolation; 860 have been asked to isolate at home and 60 are in institutional quarantine. The results have come to the fore through 12,394 tests conducted to date.
Region Four still remains the region with the most COVID-19 cases standing at 1,053. Close behind are Regions One, Nine, Seven, and Three with cases 348, 340, 277, and 180 respectively. Recording the lowest cases are Regions Ten, Eight, Six, Two, and Five with cases 94, 36, 33, 28, and 13 respectively.
The MOH reminds the public that the current COVID-19 Emergency Measures remain in effect until September 30, 2020. The order emphasizes the need for correct and consistent use of face masks when leaving their homes; the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others; and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
