– after ‘picking fight’ over ‘ole story’

A 23-year-old construction worker of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), suffered a broken shin bone during a fight he reportedly started late Friday night over an old grievance.

The injured man has been identified as Devon Ally. The Guyana Police Force, in a statement on Saturday, said the incident, involving Ally and a 23-year-old mason of Westminster, WBD, took place at Policeman Corner, Parfaite Harmonie, WBD, at around 21:30hrs on Friday, September 18, 2020.
According to the police report, the fight was as a result of a misunderstanding the two young men had several years ago. On the night of the incident, the victim was reportedly proceeding north along the roadway in the vicinity of Policeman Corner on his bicycle when he saw the suspect walking.
“The victim approached the suspect in attempt to fight. The suspect then picked up a piece of wood causing the victim to kick him. The suspect in retaliation dealt him a blow to his right leg and ran away in an unknown direction,” the police detailed.

Ally was later picked up by a passerby and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor. According to the doctor’s report, the 23-year-old construction worker suffered a broken tibia bone (Shin bone), however, he is in stable condition.
As a result of the “grievous bodily harm” inflicted on Ally, the Police Force is investigating the incident. The suspect, who has since been arrested, remains in custody, pending the outcome of the investigation.
