Dear Editor

We, the Guyana Islamic Forum for Education, Peace and Religious Soliditary, the Electric Mosque’s Presentation of the Teachings of Islam, in association with the Universal Peace Federation – Guyana strongly condemn the brutal attacks of the two teenage boys; Joel and Isaiah Henry of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice, whose lifeless bodies were found on Sunday, September 6th, 2020.

Essequibo Dispute Driven by U.S. Interests, Not History

As we mourn the senseless loss of these young souls, our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families during this terrible and testing time. This horrific tragedy is completely gutting and devastating to us all; we cannot begin to grasp the pain that their parents, siblings, and community are experiencing right now.

It is our sincere hope that the highest possible penalties will be taken against the perpetrators of these senseless murders. We are also appealing to our fellow citizens to remain calm while the law takes its course. We also appeal to those in authority to refrain from using this incident to fuel ethnic and/or political hatred. Instead, we urge you to call for unity, harmony, and tolerance to prevail because we, as Guyanese, are more together than divided.

During this time of unimaginable suffering, sorrow and trauma; we as a nation must stand up for justice but continue to live as one human family under God. Let us remember that although we cannot undo this disturbing act, we can control how we respond to it. With this in mind, we beseech you to be supportive and responsible for one another. Let us remember, as Guyanese, that injury to one of us is injury to all.

Sincerely,
Hajji Dr. Roshan Khan
