Omawatie Persaud denied creating a fake account to attack her assailant

Twenty-nine-year-old, Omawatie Persaud called Devika was on Monday morning attacked and badly beaten by another woman just about a street away from her Lot 68A #59 Village home.

Persaud during an interview with Village Voice said she had just finished her chores and was heading to a seamstress when the enraged woman noticed her walking through the street and armed herself with a cutlass and a piece of wood. As she was getting closer to the seamstress house, Persaud said the woman whose name is Lalita Roopnarine followed her and began hurling insults at her. As a result an argument ensued between the two women which eventually led to a violent scuffle. Persaud said that the woman’s attack on her stemmed from an incident in which she (Persaud) claims to have no dealings with. The Village Voice understands that weeks ago there was a fake Facebook page created by someone who deliberately used the account to send threatening remarks at Roopnarine via the social media platform. Persaud alleged that since then she and Roopnarine have been at odds. She said Roopnarine believes she created the account to use against her.

“Monday morning she see me walking through the street to go by the seamstress because she lives not far from there, so she left her house and walk and go by the seamstress neighbour culvert and was standing there thinking I would have go out but then she start cursing me from there and I did curse her back too so the argument became a heated one and she just ran into the yard where I was and attacked me. She knocked me with the stick and I scrambled her to defend myself but her two daughters run in and scramble me as well and they hold me down.”

Omawatie Persaud was severely chopped to the head

According to Persdaud a mother of two she was unable to escape the woman’s furious attack since Roopnarine’s two daughters joined their mother in helping to attack her. Persaud said during the scuffle Roopnarine whipped out her cutlass and dealt her a chop to the head. “I have a big scar on my head, I get six stitches and I am in so much pain. Since then I am having constant headaches. I did not do this woman anything. I did curse her back but in no way I was in connection with that facebook issue. I hope that the police can investigate this incident properly because all I want is justice,” Persaud noted.

She said that it was the seamstress who helped her to escape the beating. “The lady come out back and hold she and said Lalita stop fight.” According to Persaud the woman and her two daughters fled the scene. Persaud was taken to the hospital later for treatment.  A report has since been filed and the two women are expected to face the court very soon.
