Youth killed in hit-and-run crash at La Grange

Police are investigating a hit-and-run fatal accident which occurred Tuesday night on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara. Dead is Imran Abdul, age 25 yrs, a mason, of Lot 24 Unity Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.

Enquiries disclosed that the pedestrian left his brother’s residence at Goed Fortuin Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara, about 21:00 hrs on foot heading south along the eastern side of the road en route to his residence when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed.

As a result of the collision, Abdul fell onto the eastern parapet where he suffered injuries to his head and back, and the unknown vehicle drove away.

Abdul was picked up in an unconscious condition and escorted to West Demerara Regional Hospital by the police where he was seen, examined, and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

The body is presently lying at Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting post mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing
