Six-day-old Infant dies from COVID

A six-day-old infant from Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) is the most recent COVID-19 death recorded in Guyana. The announcement came from the Ministry of Health on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Ministry, the male infant – Guyana’s 150th patient, died while receiving care at our medical facility. The MOH has expressed sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and has promised to make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.

Officials of the Ministry have also contacted all relatives and persons to facilitate contact tracing and rapid assistance to everyone who may have been exposed to the now-deceased person.

Already, over 5,300 persons have contracted COVID-19 in Guyana. There are over 700 persons in home isolation and over 40 in institutional quarantine.

The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and his family, and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.
