Driver flees scene after car fatally hit pedestrian

Kayum Alie, a pedestrian, of Bushy Park Squatting Area, East bank Essequibo (EBE) was on Friday night killed by a speeding car on the Hydronie Public Road, Parika, EBE.

According to Police, the accident took place at about 21:55h and the driver of the car and his particulars are unknown as he fled the scene on foot shortly after the accident. The car is owned by Sheldon Holder of Doctor Charles Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

“Investigations revealed that the car was proceeding south along the western driveway of the eastern carriage way, at an alleged fast rate of speed and collided with the pedestrian who was standing on the median”, the Police said.

The car, which turned turtle, then collided with a nearby shop situated on the western side of the western carriageway.

Ali’s received injuries about his head and body. He was picked by the Police and taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Alie’s body is stationed at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor Mortuary awaiting a post Mortem Examination.

The car is lodged at Leonora Police Station to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer while efforts are being made to arrest the driver.

Investigation are ongoing.
