GDF recruit dies after collapsing during training

The Guyana Defence Force recruit on Thursday died two weeks after he collapsed during training during the Basic Recruit Course at Tacama.

Recruit Orwin Reynolds died at the Georgetown Public Hospital. In a release the GDF said Reynolds was deemed fit for military training by the Force Medical Officer having successfully passed the Force’s Medical Examination.

However, approximately two weeks into training, he complained of feeling unwell and was treated  according for his symptoms, by GDF medical personnel. All internal protocols for the delivery of medical care for Recruit Reynolds were followed prior to his transfer to the GPHC, where he succumbed.
The Force extends deepest condolences to the parents, siblings and other relatives of Recruit Orwin Reynolds.
