…to address National Assembly, sign cooperation agreements
President Irfaan Ali will on Monday travel to neighbouring Suriname for a three-day visit in observance of Suriname’s 45th Independence anniversary. The two countries are also expected to sign cooperation agreements, Starnieuws reported.
The President will be accompanied by Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall. According to the news report published Monday morning and captioned “Guyanese President Ali chief guest at Srefidensi”, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo who was scheduled to be part of the President’s delegation, will no longer be traveling to Suriname.
Suriname’s newly-elected President, Chandrikapersad Santokhi had traveled to Guyana in August for Ali’s inauguration ceremony and the two leaders have since committed to strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
According to Starnieuws, President Ali will visit Staatsolie, Suriname’s state oil company, and will be the only guest to address Suriname’s National Assembly in an extraordinary public meeting on Wednesday.
“The festivities will be held under strict protocols, taking into account Covid-19. The president will be offering dinner to foreign guests on Tuesday. Then the invitees also have the opportunity to convey their congratulatory message,” the report stated.
