Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met with President of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, calling on the two sides to support each other in today’s turbulent world.

Xi recalled Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s state visit to China in spring this year, saying important consensus on leading China-Brazil relations to open up a new era had been reached during the visit.

The Belt and Road Initiative is highly compatible with Brazil’s re-industrialization strategy – New Growth Acceleration Program, and can be fully aligned to help the two sides’ respective modernization processes, the Chinese president pointed out.

China supports Brazil in hosting next year’s Group of 20 (G20) Summit and the UN Climate Change Conference in 2025 (COP30), and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Brazil, Xi added.

Stressing that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between China and Brazil, and next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Xi believes that the two countries have a lot of potential for further development of their relations.

Calling the Brazilian Congress an important driving force in the development of bilateral relations, Xi hopes that Lira and other Brazilian Congress members will actively promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil and contribute to the better development of China-Brazil relations.

Lira pointed out that Brazil’s cooperation with China has contributed to Brazil’s economic and social development and increased its employment and production capacity.

China’s success is of great significance to the world, and China has always been an important partner of Brazil in realizing development, he added.

The Brazilian Congress is willing to strengthen exchanges with China’s National People’s Congress, Lira said. He vowed to take next year’s 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to promote the relationship between Brazil and China to a new height.

As next year’s G20 Chair, Brazil is willing to work closely with China and play its due role, and looks forward to welcoming President Xi, he added. (CGTN)
