Bureau of Stats’ Statement on passing of Board Member, Mrs. Evelyn Hamilton, A.A

The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Bureau of Statistics were today saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Evelyn Hamilton A.A., who served on the Bureau’s Governing Board for over 8 years, until the time of her passing. 

Though most of her formative years were spent in the Education Sector, Mrs. Hamilton was originally trained in Economics and Business Administration and brought invaluable insight which contributed significantly to the work and operations of the Bureau of Statistics.

As a professional in the field of Education and Public Policy, she was passionate about embracing the value of data and statistics and ensuring its effective use. She brought this vigor to her contributions as a board member, thereby supporting the development of data and statistics in Guyana.  

Mrs. Hamilton was an advocate of staff welfare, capacity development and enhancement of the Bureau to effectively deliver quality data and statistics. She also supported the prudent use of technology and innovation to support staff and improve data quality. 

Her passions also extended to the Bureau’s Community projects, where encouraged efforts to promote education and equal opportunities for youths. 

Throughout her professional career, she also served as Chief Planning Officer of the Ministry of Education, Chairperson of the National Commission on Disabilities, a member of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Book Foundation and the DDL Education Foundation, among others. 

In 2002, she was the recipient of the Golden Arrow of Achievement for long service of consistently high quality in the field of Education.

Mrs. Hamilton has left an indelible mark at the organization and her passing is not only a significant loss to the Bureau of Statistics Family, but by extension, the country as a whole. 

As we pay tribute to this consummate professional, we extend our deepest condolences to her family and all those whose lives she would have impacted. May her soul rest in peace.
